Neighbors and members of the North Amherst community were invited to a “science fair” type presentation of design presentations from the UMass Stockbridge School of Agriculture Permaculture Design and Practice class on May 7, 2026 at the North Amherst Public Library. The students worked with board members and friends of the North Amherst Community Farm. They worked to reimagine the site as a diversified, mixed enterprise community farm using permaculture principles and ethics and biophysical design process. About 40 community members attended the presentation.

Community members are invited to review the four proposals developed by the students (you may download to review or click on the pdf logo at the bottom corner of the image to open)

Several members of the NACF board of directors shared the following thoughts:
- It was energizing to see the student presentations and the active engagement of our community members. I’m particularly jazzed to see the recommendation to create a community garden at the farm.

If you have suggestions you’d like to share with the NACF board, please send them to johngerber123@gmail.com. The next step is for the board to integrate the many ideas we have received and make decisions regarding the near and long term future for our community farm.
